History Of Deenabandhu Charitable Trust

In early 1996 an elderly widow of the community who was neglected by her kith & kin was shifted from Kodagu to Mysore & was found living in utter poverty. Adding to her woes she developed cancer & needed money for treatment. The plight of this lady was brought to the notice of Col (Rtd) Pattamada C Ganapathy by Dr Latha Muthanna with the intention of helping her. Motivated by Mrs Maletira M Chittianna; a group of Kodavas pooled in Rs 17,000 for her treatment. Unfortunately soon after surgery the lady expired. Around the same time, the bread winner of a Kodava family of moderate means, died in an accident. A portion of the money was spent for the treatment of the injured survivors of the family. The rest of it was used for the schooling & upkeep(for 5 years)of two girls below 10 years of age. At this point, the idea of starting a trust was mooted to meet such eventualities. On 4th July 1996 a meeting of like-minded people was held & the following committee was formed with the intention of helping the less fortunate members of our community to get education & for medical & other emergencies.
